CSGOEmpire Knives: The Smart Ways to Get a Knife on Empire
Updated · By the MyCS2Guru Editorial Team

A knife is the big flex in CS2, bro, and CSGOEmpire is one of the biggest P2P marketplaces to get one. You can buy outright, bid in auctions, or try your luck in cases. Each route has very different costs and risks. This page breaks down how to get a knife on CSGOEmpire, how Empire prices knives, which sellers to trust, and the trade protection rules that affect what you can do with it after. General marketplace guide: CSGOEmpire marketplace.
Three routes compared
| Route | Price | Risk | Speed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Withdraw page (buy) | Fixed | None (you get the knife) | Seller has 12 hours |
| Auction | Bid, often below list | None if you win; coins back if not | 30-minute windows |
| Cases / battles | Case price per try | High; knife slots are rare | Instant result |
If you want a knife, buying or bidding wins on average because there's no house edge. Cases are a lottery with an 8.8% edge.

How Empire prices knives
Empire pulls pricing data mostly from BUFF (buy orders and listings), calculates an average USD price, and converts to coins. Its default price is usually around 6% below the BUFF listing, but it can vary on low-demand items. Sellers then list relative to that base. Items at +6% or less go to auction; above that, straight to the withdraw page. Rare patterns and phases can be priced oddly by any automated system, so check carefully on premium knives.
Knife price tiers (rough)
| Tier | Examples | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Budget | Navaja, Gut, Shadow Daggers, Falchion in common finishes | Cheapest entry |
| Mid | Flip, Huntsman, Bowie, Ursus, Stiletto | Popular middle |
| High | Talon, Skeleton, M9 Bayonet, Bayonet | Premium finishes get pricey |
| Top | Butterfly, Karambit | Most expensive in most finishes |
Finish and wear move prices massively. See our CS2 knife tier list for looks and value.

Checking a knife before you buy
| Check | Why |
|---|---|
| Float | Wear changes looks and price |
| Phase (Doppler/Gamma Doppler) | Phases can multiply value |
| Pattern (Case Hardened, Fade %) | Blue gems and high fades carry premiums |
| BUFF price | Sanity-check Empire's base |
| Seller stats | Avoid slow or unreliable sellers |
Guides: Doppler phases, fade percentage, blue gems.
Trade protection: what happens after you buy
Steam made trades reversible for 7 days. On Empire, when you buy an item you can equip and play with it, but you can't trade, sell, consume or modify it during the window. Sellers can wait up to 8 days for coins. If a trade gets reversed, funds are held and it's handled as a dispute; reversers are permanently banned from the marketplace.
Knife from cases: the honest maths
Empire's cases and battles carry an 8.8% house edge. A knife slot in a case is priced into that. If a case costs 10 coins and has a knife at 0.5%, you'd expect about one knife per 200 openings on average, costing around 2,000 coins in total, and on average you get back about 91.2% of what you spend in all items combined. Buying the knife is almost always the better route if the knife is what you want.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Seller didn't send | Wait the timer; coins return if the trade fails |
| Knife locked in inventory | Trade protection window |
| Trade offer looks different | Don't accept; dispute on site |
| Price seems off | Compare with BUFF; report wild prices via Empire's Discord |
Buying vs bidding: which is better for knives?
For most players, auctions are where the value is. Sellers who price near Empire's base push their knives into the auction system, and because that base usually sits a few percent under BUFF listings, bidding can land you a knife below what you'd pay elsewhere. The catch is commitment: once you bid, your coins are held, you can't cancel an auction withdrawal, and you need to be around to accept the trade within 30 minutes. If you can't stay online, the withdraw page is calmer: fixed price, and sellers have 12 hours to send.
On expensive knives, take extra time. Check whether the price reflects the specific phase or pattern, look at recent sales on other markets, and make sure the seller has a solid delivery record. A great price from a seller who rarely completes trades isn't a great price.
Funding a knife purchase efficiently
If you're depositing just to buy a knife, think about fees and rules. Skin deposits and withdrawals carry zero Empire fees, so trading in skins you don't use can be the cheapest way to build the balance. Crypto works too, ideally on a cheap network like Litecoin or USDT on Polygon. Remember that withdrawing skins never needs wagering, so you can deposit crypto and take a knife out without playing a single game. It's only crypto withdrawals that need your cash or crypto deposits wagered first.
Using the free case
FREECASES4U gives a free case with a top prize up to $1.4k. Could that be a knife? It's possible in theory, but the top prize is a long shot by design. Treat the free case as a fun bonus: open it, and if you win something useful, it goes toward your knife budget.
After the knife arrives
Once your knife lands, you can use it in game straight away. You won't be able to trade or sell it until Steam's protection window passes. If you bought it to flip, factor that lock into your plan. If you bought it to use, enjoy it, and maybe leave the inspect button alone for a few minutes.
Knife scams to avoid on P2P
The big one is the API key scam. A scammer who has your Steam Web API key can cancel your real trade the instant it arrives and send a near-identical fake from a lookalike profile. You think you're accepting the seller's knife; you're actually sending coins' worth to a thief or accepting junk. Prevention is simple: never paste your API key into any site, revoke any key you didn't create in Steam settings, and only accept the trade from the exact user Empire shows. If anything looks off, dispute on site instead of accepting. Our CS2 trading scams guide covers more tricks.
Also ignore DMs from people offering to sell you a knife "cheaper off-site" or claiming to be Empire staff. Empire handles the matching; off-site deals have no protection at all.
Knife budget plan
Decide the knife and finish you actually want first, then the maximum you'll pay. Build the balance through skins or a cheap crypto deposit, and avoid gambling the balance to "get there faster": at an 8.8% case edge or 6.66% on roulette, that usually makes the knife further away, not closer. Check auctions over a few days to learn real clearing prices before you commit.
