CSGOEmpire Enable Tracking: How to Turn On Trade Tracking (and Keep It Working)

If you sell skins on CSGOEmpire's peer-to-peer market, sooner or later you'll see a nudge to "enable tracking". It's easy to ignore, and plenty of people do until a sale gets stuck or a buyer opens a dispute. This guide shows you exactly how to turn trade tracking on, how to fix the token errors that trip people up, why the setting keeps switching itself off, and what it actually changes about when and how you get paid.

Quick note on how we wrote this: everything below comes from CSGOEmpire's own help center and developer docs, which we read on October 30, 2026. We're describing Empire's published process, not claiming results from our own test trades. Empire changes screens and wording from time to time, so if a button looks different, the steps still follow the same logic.

What trade tracking on CSGOEmpire actually is

CSGOEmpire's marketplace is peer-to-peer. When you sell a skin, it doesn't go to Empire. It goes straight from your Steam inventory to the buyer's, through a normal Steam trade offer. Empire sits in the middle holding the buyer's coins, and it needs a way to know the trade really happened before it releases those coins to you.

That's what tracking is for. You give Empire a Steam web token that, according to Empire's help article, can only be used to check your trade history. With it, Empire's system can look at your Steam trades and see on its own whether an item was sent, accepted, or reversed. Without it, Empire has to rely on the buyer clicking "received" or on screenshots and support tickets when something goes wrong.

Two things tracking does not do, according to Empire's developer docs:

  • It doesn't send, accept or reject trades for you. You still confirm every trade in the Steam mobile authenticator.
  • Empire can't use the token to create, accept, cancel or confirm trade offers.

So think of it as a read-only window into your trade history. It's there to settle trades and disputes, not to automate your inventory.

Why you should bother turning it on

Empire lists several benefits on its help page, and they're worth spelling out because they directly touch your money:

  • Sellers get credited automatically. Once the trade clears, coins land in your balance without waiting for the buyer to do anything.
  • Buyers don't need to mark items as received. That's one less step that can stall a sale.
  • Disputes usually settle without evidence. Empire can see what happened in the trade, so you don't need to dig up screenshots.
  • Expired trades go your way if you did your part. If you marked the trade as sent and the buyer lets the offer expire, Empire says the coins go to the seller.

There's also a less obvious reason. Empire's developer changelog says that if tracking isn't enabled, trades only auto-complete after about 14 days in total, which is the 7-day protection window plus another 7 days. With tracking, it happens as soon as the protection period ends. If you sell often, that difference adds up.

How Steam Trade Protection changed Empire payouts

To understand why tracking matters so much now, you need the background. Steam made trades reversible: for 7 days after a trade, the sender can reverse it. Empire's July 2026 update article explains how the site adapted:

  • When you buy, the item arrives in your Steam inventory but stays protected. You can equip and use it, but you can't trade, sell, consume or modify it until protection ends.
  • When you sell, Empire credits you only after the protection period finishes. Empire's help page says this can take up to 8 days, and the developer docs describe it as 7 days plus the hours until Valve's daily reset at midnight. In plain terms, expect roughly 7 to 8 days.
  • If someone reverses a trade, Empire treats it as a dispute, and anyone caught reversing trades is permanently banned from the marketplace.

During that window, the trade sits in a "completed but reversible" state. Tracking is how Empire watches the trade through those days and knows, without anyone filing a ticket, that it went through cleanly. How to enable tracking: the easy way (extension)

Empire's recommended method is its trading extension for Chrome. The help center says the extension updates your token automatically, and the P2P help article adds that it autofills things for you so you don't paste the wrong text.

The general flow looks like this:

  1. Log in to Steam in the same Chrome browser you use for CSGOEmpire.
  2. Install Empire's trading extension. Only use the link from inside csgoempire.com itself, so you know you've got the official one. Fake extensions are a classic way to steal skins.
  3. Open the trade tracking setting on Empire. You'll usually find the prompt in your settings or right in the P2P flow when you sell.
  4. Let the extension fill in the token and confirm.
  5. Leave the extension installed. Since the token expires daily, the extension is what keeps tracking alive without you thinking about it.

If you're new to browser trading tools, our CS2 trading extension guide explains what these add-ons do and how to spot a fake.

How to enable tracking: the manual way

If you'd rather not install anything, or you're on a browser the extension doesn't support, you can do it by hand. Here's the process from Empire's help article:

  1. Make sure you're logged in at steamcommunity.com in the browser you're using.
  2. Open the Steam token page that Empire links to in its trade tracking prompt.
  3. Copy the entire text on that page. It looks something like {"success":1,"data":{"webapi_token":"..."}}. Copy all of it, braces included, not just the long string in the middle.
  4. Paste it into the trade tracking box on CSGOEmpire.
  5. Click Confirm. Empire says its system then checks your trades every few minutes.

The catch with the manual route is that the token resets every 24 hours, and Empire's help page says you have to update it by hand when that happens. Forget to refresh it and tracking quietly stops working until you paste a new one.

Fixing the common tracking errors

Most "tracking won't enable" problems come down to a handful of causes.

The token page shows "data":[]

If the page shows {"success":1,"data":[]} with nothing inside, Steam doesn't think you're logged in on that browser. Empire's fix: log in at steamcommunity.com, then reload the token page and copy the full text again. This also happens if you're logged in on the Steam desktop app but not in the browser itself, or if you're in a private window.

You copied only part of the text

Empire asks for the full JSON. If you grab only the token string, or miss a bracket at the start or end, the paste may be rejected. Select everything on the page (Ctrl+A, then Ctrl+C) and paste it in one go.

Tracking worked yesterday but not today

That's the 24-hour reset. The token you pasted has expired. Paste a fresh one, or switch to the extension so it refreshes on its own.

Wrong Steam account

If you have more than one Steam account, make sure the browser is logged in to the same account that's linked to your CSGOEmpire profile. A token from a different account won't match your trades.

Still stuck

Clear the site's cache, try a clean browser profile, and turn off other trading extensions that might fight over the same pages. If nothing works, contact Empire support through the site's help center and tell them what the token page shows (without pasting the token itself into a public chat).

What tracking changes when you sell

Here's what a sale looks like on Empire's P2P market, based on its help article, and where tracking fits in:

  • The listing sells. If you priced the item at +6% or less, it may go through a short 3-minute auction first. Our CSGOEmpire auction guide covers how that works.
  • You send the trade. You have about 30 minutes to send after an auction sale, or up to 12 hours for a regular sale. One item per trade.
  • You confirm in Steam. Always check the buyer's details in the Steam app before confirming, so you know the offer is going to the right person.
  • The trade moves to "pending payout". With tracking on, Empire's help page says this happens automatically.
  • Protection runs out and you're credited. Roughly 7 to 8 days later, the coins land in your balance.

If you don't have tracking on, Empire's help article says that after 7 days you'll be prompted to enable it. That's a hint about how central it has become. For the bigger picture of buying and selling on Empire, see our CSGOEmpire marketplace guide.

One more thing: Empire applies trade punishments to sellers who don't confirm trades they've agreed to. Tracking can't confirm a trade for you, so keep the Steam app handy whenever you have a listing live.

Tracking and disputes

Disputes are where tracking pays for itself. Empire's P2P article describes a few cases:

  • The seller never sent an offer. These disputes are usually settled automatically within minutes when tracking can see there was no trade.
  • A dispute is opened. Empire prompts both sides to enable tracking, because that's how it checks what really happened.
  • A trade gets reversed. If you're on the losing end of a reversal, open a dispute and make sure tracking is on within 48 hours. Empire says the refund is then automatic and the person who reversed the trade is banned. If you don't see the refund after 15 to 20 minutes, contact support.

Without tracking, these same situations can drag on while support reviews screenshots and trade history by hand. With it, a lot of them resolve before you've finished your coffee.

Is it safe to give CSGOEmpire your Steam token?

It's a fair question, because handing any kind of Steam access to a website should make you careful. Here's what Empire states, and what we'd still do on top of that.

What Empire says:

  • The token can only be used to check trade history.
  • Its systems can't create, accept, cancel or confirm offers with it.
  • The token resets every 24 hours, so an old one stops working on its own.
  • Empire's developer docs also list a way to delete the token, which turns tracking off.

What we'd add:

  • Only paste the token on the real csgoempire.com. Bookmark the site and use the bookmark. Phishing clones love copying popular trading sites.
  • Never send the token to anyone. No real support agent needs it in a DM.
  • Don't confuse it with a Steam Web API key. An API key is a different, long-lived credential, and scammers ask for those to intercept and swap trade offers. If any site or person asks for your API key, stop. Our CS2 trading scams guide walks through how API key scams work.
  • Keep Steam Guard on and confirm trades on your phone. That's your real safety net, because no trade leaves your inventory without your confirmation.

Tips to keep tracking working

  • Use the extension if you sell regularly. The daily reset is the number one reason tracking switches off, and the extension handles it for you.
  • Check tracking before you list. If you're about to put up several items, make sure tracking is active first so every sale is covered.
  • Keep one browser for trading. Logging in and out of Steam across different browsers is the fastest way to end up with an empty token.
  • Don't panic about the payout delay. The 7 to 8 day wait comes from Steam's Trade Protection, not from tracking. If a sale is still pending well after that, our CSGOEmpire withdrawal pending guide covers what to check next.

The bottom line

Enabling trade tracking on CSGOEmpire takes a couple of minutes. Install Empire's own extension if you can, or paste the full Steam token text by hand and click Confirm. Remember that manual tokens expire every 24 hours, that a "data":[] result just means you're not logged in to Steam in that browser, and that tracking only reads your trade history while you still confirm every trade yourself. Turn it on before you list, and your sales get credited automatically once Trade Protection ends, disputes settle faster, and a reversed trade gets refunded instead of becoming a headache. FAQ

How do I enable trade tracking on CSGOEmpire?

Either install Empire's trading extension for Chrome, which fills in and refreshes the token for you, or do it by hand: open the Steam token page while logged in to Steam, copy the whole JSON text it shows, paste it into the trade tracking box on CSGOEmpire and click Confirm.

Why does my Steam token show "data":[]?

That means Steam doesn't see you as logged in on that browser. Log in at steamcommunity.com in the same browser, reload the token page, and copy the full text again.

Why does CSGOEmpire keep asking me to enable tracking again?

The Steam token resets every 24 hours. If you use the manual method, you have to paste a fresh one after it expires. The extension updates it automatically, which is why Empire recommends it.

Is CSGOEmpire trade tracking safe?

Empire says the token can only be used to check your trade history, and its docs say it can't create, accept, cancel or confirm trade offers. You still confirm every trade yourself in the Steam app. Only paste it on the real csgoempire.com and never give it to anyone else.

Is the trade tracking token the same as a Steam API key?

No. Trade tracking uses a short-lived web token that expires within a day. A Steam Web API key is a different thing, and scammers ask for API keys to hijack trades. Never hand an API key to a site or a person.

How long until I get paid after a sale with tracking on?

Because of Steam's Trade Protection, Empire only credits a sale once the protection window ends, which is roughly 7 to 8 days. Tracking lets that happen automatically instead of waiting on the buyer.

What happens if I don't enable tracking?

Your trades still work, but the buyer has to mark items received, disputes need more manual proof, and Empire's developer docs say untracked trades only auto-complete after about 14 days in total.

Does trade tracking help with a reversed trade?

Yes. If a buyer reverses a trade, you open a dispute and have tracking on within 48 hours. Empire says the refund is then automatic and the reverser is banned from the marketplace.
