How to Take Mid Control on Mirage as T
Updated October 10, 2026 · MyCS2Guru crew
On Mirage, the team that controls mid usually controls the round. Taking mid gives you Connector (into A) and Short (into B), which means you can split either site and force CTs to guess. Here's how to take it.
Why mid matters
Without mid, your only routes are A Ramp, Palace and B Apartments. Those are predictable and easy to stack. With mid, you add Connector and Short, so CTs have more angles to cover and can't rotate as freely.
The setup
| Player | Position | Job |
|---|---|---|
| Player 1 | Top Mid | Window smoke, first peek |
| Player 2 | Top Mid | Trade, pushes Short or Connector |
| Player 3 | Underpass | Pressures B side |
| Player 4 | A Ramp / Palace | Holds A side |
| Player 5 | B Apartments | Holds B side |
The utility
| Utility | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Window smoke | Blocks the AWPer |
| Connector smoke (optional) | Stops CTs from Connector |
| Short flash | Blinds the Short player |
| Molotov Chair / Window area | Clears close spots |
Step by step
- Throw the Window smoke in the first seconds.
- Flash Short or Connector and peek with two players.
- Trade any opening fight.
- Take Connector or Short depending on what's open.
- Hold it and call what you see.
- Decide: split A through Connector or B through Short.
What to do with mid control
| You own | Next move |
|---|---|
| Connector | A split with Ramp and Palace |
| Short | B split with Apartments |
| Both | Fake one site, hit the other |
What CTs will try
- AWP Window: smoke it.
- Aggressive Connector peek: trade it.
- Short boost: flash it.
- Molotov Top Mid: wait or use Underpass.
Common mistakes
- No Window smoke. You'll get AWPed.
- Peeking alone. Always trade.
- Taking mid and doing nothing. Use it.
- Overextending into Jungle. Wait for the team.
Practice drill
Practice the Window smoke until it lands every time. Then practice the Short flash. See our Mirage callouts.
Example round
Window smoke lands. A Short flash pops. Two Ts push Short and kill one CT. They call "Short taken, one dead." The IGL calls a B split. Two from Short, two from Apartments, B falls. That's mid control turning into a round win.
Utility for mid control
| Utility | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Window smoke | Blocks the AWP in Window |
| Connector smoke (optional) | Cuts off Connector |
| Short flash | Helps the player taking Short |
| Molotov (optional) | Clears a close spot in Underpass or Short |
Common mistakes
- Walking into mid without the Window smoke. You'll get picked by an AWP.
- Taking mid with only one player. You need a trade.
- Taking mid then doing nothing. Mid control is only useful if you use it.
- Overextending. Once you have Connector or Short, hold it and call the split.
What the CTs will try
CTs might push Connector or Short early, or play off-angles in mid. Use your flash before clearing, and trade your teammate.
Practice tip
Learn the Window smoke from T spawn and the Short flash. Practice them until you can throw both without thinking. Then run mid control with a teammate in a private match, trading each other's fights.

Example round
Your mid player smokes Window and your second player flashes Short. You take Connector after trading one CT. With Connector controlled, your IGL calls an A split: three from Ramp and Palace, two through Connector. The CTs on A get hit from three directions and the site falls quickly.
