How to Remove (Unbind) a Key in CS2

Updated October 10, 2026 · MyCS2Guru crew

Messed up a bind? Pressed something that does something weird? Here's how to remove a bind in CS2, reset keys and fix your config.

Method 1: Console

Open the console and type unbind followed by the key. Examples:

  • unbind f removes the bind on F.
  • unbind mouse4 removes the bind on mouse button 4.
  • unbind kp_enter removes the bind on the numpad Enter.

Method 2: Settings menu

Go to Settings, Keyboard/Mouse. Find the action, click the key and press a new one, or clear it. You can also restore defaults from this menu.

Reset all binds

Type unbindall in the console to remove every bind. Careful: this removes your movement keys too. Then use the settings menu to restore defaults, or exec a config file.

Find out what a key does

Type key_findbinding followed by a command to see what's bound to it, or check the settings menu.

Understanding binds in CS2

A bind connects a key to a command. Movement keys, jump, crouch, buy menu, voice chat: all binds. You can also create custom binds for things like dropping weapons, toggling settings or switching crosshair size. When a bind goes wrong (say you accidentally bound a key to something weird from a config you copied), unbinding fixes it.

Useful binds most players should have

BindExample commandWhy
Push-to-talkbind mouse4 +voicerecordTalk without moving your fingers
Drop weaponbind g dropDrop for teammates
Quick smokebind 4 "slot8"Faster utility access
Clear decalsbind shift "+speed; r_cleardecals"Removes blood and bullet holes
Scoreboardbind tab +showscoresDefault, check money and stats

How to back up your binds

Before you start changing things, back up your config:

  1. Go to your CS2 config folder (inside your Steam userdata folder for CS2).
  2. Copy the files to a safe place.
  3. If something breaks, copy them back.

You can also write all your binds in an autoexec.cfg so you always have a clean list.

Fixing common bind problems

  • A key does nothing: it may be unbound. Rebind it in settings.
  • A key does two things: check for conflicting binds in your autoexec.
  • Binds reset every launch: make sure your autoexec runs with +exec autoexec in launch options.
  • Movement stopped working after unbindall: restore defaults in Settings, Keyboard/Mouse.

Bind etiquette for configs you copy

Copying a pro's config can bring along binds you don't want. Always read through a config before running it and unbind anything that doesn't make sense to you.

Quick recap

Use unbind KEY to remove a bind, unbindall carefully to reset, and bind KEY "command" to create new ones. Save your favorite binds in an autoexec.

Pro tip

Before changing binds, back up your config file. If something breaks, restore the backup.

Why clean binds matter

Old or conflicting binds can cause you to throw the wrong grenade, open a menu mid-fight or mute your mic by accident. A clean, simple set of binds removes those mistakes. Take ten minutes to audit your binds once, save them in an autoexec, and you won't have to think about them again.

Creating your own binds

Once you've cleaned up your binds, make some useful ones. The format is bind KEY "command". A few examples:

  • bind mouse5 "+voicerecord" for push-to-talk on your second side button.
  • bind n "toggle cl_radar_scale 0.3 0.5" to switch radar zoom.
  • bind KP_ENTER "toggle cl_crosshairsize 2 1000" for a giant crosshair when lining up grenades.
  • bind h "say_team Need a drop" for a quick team message.

Put your favorites in an autoexec so they load every time.

Key names you might need

KeyName in console
Side mouse buttonsmouse4, mouse5
Mouse wheelmwheelup, mwheeldown
Numpad Enterkp_enter
Numpad 0 to 9kp_ins, kp_end, kp_downarrow and so on
Spacespace
Left Shiftshift
Left Ctrlctrl
Left Altalt

Jump on mouse wheel

Many players bind jump to the mouse wheel as well as space: bind mwheeldown +jump. It can make jumping onto boxes and bunny hopping more consistent. Try it and see if it suits you.

Bind FAQ

  • Can binds get me banned? Normal binds are completely fine. Avoid scripts that automate gameplay in ways Valve doesn't allow.
  • How do I see all my binds? Type key_listboundkeys in the console.
  • Why does my bind not work in Premier? Some commands are restricted in matchmaking. Check that your bind uses allowed commands.
  • Can I bind multiple commands to one key? Yes, separate them with semicolons inside quotes.

Keep your binds simple and save them in an autoexec, and you'll never lose them again.
