Clash.gg Knives: Cases, Butterfly, Karambit and Real Odds
Updated · MyCS2Guru crew

Every CS2 player wants a knife, bro, and Clash.gg is built around that itch: knife cases, upgrades to a Butterfly, battles where one Karambit wins the pot. Here's how to go after Clash.gg knives with realistic expectations, including the two everyone asks about, the Butterfly Knife and the Karambit. For the wider pick of cases, see Clash.gg best cases.
Three ways to chase a knife
1. Knife cases
Clash.gg has cases themed around knives. Each case page lists every item and its percentage. The knife slots are usually a small share of the odds, and the cheaper the case, the lower the chance. Read the table before you click.
2. The upgrader
Pick a knife as your target, stake something cheaper, and Clash.gg shows the chance. The listed upgrader edge is 7.3%. A $10 stake aiming at a $200 knife is about a 4.6% shot. Full mechanics: Clash.gg upgrader.
3. Case battles
Win a battle and you take every item opened, including someone else's knife. High drama, high variance. See Clash.gg case battles.

Butterfly Knife
The Butterfly is one of the most expensive knife types in CS2, so it's usually in the rarest slot of any case it's in. Finishes like Fade, Doppler and Marble Fade sit at the very top. Expect very low odds in cases; on the upgrader, the chance scales with the price gap. If you want one for keeps, buying is the predictable route.
Karambit
The Karambit is the other headline knife, with prices that vary massively by finish and pattern: a Case Hardened blue gem or a Gamma Doppler Emerald costs far more than a battle-scarred Safari Mesh. On Clash.gg it's a common "dream target" in cases and the upgrader. Pattern value matters too; our blue gem guide explains why.
The cost of chasing
| Route | Expected cost vs knife price | Variance |
|---|---|---|
| Buy on a market | ~1x (plus fees) | None |
| Upgrader | ~1.08x on average (7.3% edge) | All-or-nothing |
| Knife cases | Above 1x (case edge) | Very high |
| Battles | Case edge, redistributed | Extreme |
Chasing is fun; it's not cheaper.
Check prices on Stash
Clash.gg runs Stash, a skin database with prices for knives, gloves and weapons. Handy for sanity-checking whether a case's knife slot is worth the hype.
Withdrawing a knife
Hit one? You can withdraw to Steam under Clash.gg's rules, which may include KYC and trade checks. See Clash.gg withdraw skins.

Step-by-step: going for a knife with a fixed budget
- Set your knife budget. Decide the total you're willing to lose chasing it.
- **claim via our link and open your free cases.
- Check prices for the knife you want on Clash.gg's Stash database.
- Choose your route: upgrader for a specific knife, cases for random drops, battles for drama.
- Size your attempts so you get several tries within budget instead of one all-in shot.
- Stop when the budget's gone, win or lose.
Upgrader chance by knife price
Using the 7.3% upgrader edge Clash.gg lists, with a $10 stake:
| Knife price | Approx. chance |
|---|---|
| $80 | ~11.6% |
| $150 | ~6.2% |
| $300 | ~3.1% |
| $600 | ~1.5% |
| $1,500 | ~0.6% |
Double the stake and you roughly double the chance. The edge stays the same.
Knife types: rough price tiers
Prices move constantly and depend on finish, wear and pattern, but knife types tend to fall into rough tiers:
| Tier | Examples | Typical feel |
|---|---|---|
| Budget-friendly | Navaja, Gut, Shadow Daggers, Falchion | Cheapest way to a knife |
| Mid | Flip, Huntsman, Bowie, Stiletto, Ursus | Popular, moderate prices |
| High | Talon, Skeleton, M9 Bayonet, Bayonet | Pricey in good finishes |
| Top | Butterfly, Karambit | Most expensive in most finishes |
Our CS2 knife tier list goes deeper on looks and value.
Finishes that change everything
- Fade, Doppler, Gamma Doppler, Marble Fade: colourful, expensive, phase/pattern dependent. See Doppler phases and Gamma Doppler phases.
- Case Hardened: pattern-driven; blue gems can be worth many times a normal one.
- Tiger Tooth: consistent look, popular mid-high price.
- Safari Mesh, Forest DDPAT, Scorched: usually the cheapest finishes.
A "cheap Karambit" might be a battle-scarred Safari Mesh; a "dream Karambit" might be a Gamma Doppler Emerald. Same knife type, wildly different price.
Knife chasing mistakes
| Mistake | Better approach |
|---|---|
| All-in upgrade from a tiny stake | Several smaller attempts at realistic multipliers |
| Opening expensive knife cases with a small balance | Check how many openings your balance allows first |
| Ignoring wear and float | Check float before buying or targeting |
| Chasing after a near-miss | Near-misses mean nothing for the next roll |
Withdrawing your knife: what to expect
Hit a knife? Before you celebrate too hard, check how to get it out. Clash.gg withdrawals can involve minimums, KYC and Steam trade checks. Make sure Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator is on, your trade URL is saved, and your inventory is public. Big-value withdrawals may take longer if extra checks apply. Details are in our Clash.gg withdrawal time guide.
Buy instead? Where Clash.gg still helps
If you decide buying is smarter, Clash.gg's marketplace and Stash database can still help you compare prices. Some players use free case winnings or rakeback toward a knife purchase rather than gambling for it. Slower, but your odds of owning the knife are 100%.

Knife case checklist before you open
- What's the chance of any knife at all? Add up the knife slots.
- What's the chance of the knife you actually want?
- What are the most common drops worth vs the case price?
- How many openings does your budget allow?
- What's your stop point?
If the answer to number 1 is "under 1%" and your budget is five openings, you're realistically buying five small items with a lottery ticket attached.
Knife-related scams to dodge
- "Knife giveaway, just log in" pages with fake Steam logins.
- People offering to "lend" you a knife for a battle.
- Middlemen in DMs promising to buy your Clash.gg knife win off-site.
Keep everything on the real site and Steam.
Why knives are always the rarest slot
Case designers price cases from the average value of everything inside. A knife worth hundreds or thousands can only sit in a modest-priced case if its chance is tiny, otherwise the case would pay out more than it costs. That's the core logic behind every knife slot you'll see: the more valuable the knife relative to the case price, the smaller its percentage. Use that rule to sanity-check any case that looks too good.
