The AK-47 Case Hardened is one of those skins everybody recognizes from across the map: a rough steel body with patches of blue and gold heat staining that are different on every single copy. The Battle-Scarred version is where a lot of players first get into it, because it's usually the cheapest way to own the real thing. But "cheapest" here still means a couple of hundred dollars, so it's worth knowing exactly what the worn tier does to the look before you spend that kind of money, bro.

How we put this together: the prices come from the Steam Community Market's public price data on October 30, 2026, and the wear and pattern facts come from how CS2 skins work in general. We didn't buy a stack of these to compare them in person, and we're not going to pretend we did. Where something is an estimate, we say so.

The short answer

An AK-47 Case Hardened in Battle-Scarred is the same skin as every other wear, with the same random blue and gold pattern, just with more of the paint scratched away. On October 30, 2026 the lowest Steam listing for a normal pattern was around $215, with a median recent sale close to $198. Well-Worn and Field-Tested were only slightly higher, at about $225 and $231. That tiny spread tells you something important: on this skin, the pattern drives the price far more than the wear does.

So the real questions are which float you're getting inside that 0.45 to 1.00 band, and how much blue (or gold) the pattern puts on the parts of the rifle you actually see in game.

What Battle-Scarred does to a Case Hardened

Every CS2 skin has a float value between 0 and 1, and that number decides the wear label. Battle-Scarred is anything from 0.45 to 1.00, which makes it the widest band of all five tiers. If you want the full breakdown of every tier, our float value guide covers it.

On most skins, wear just adds grime and chips. Case Hardened is a bit different because its whole appeal is color, and wear removes color. Here's how that tends to play out across the Battle-Scarred range:

  • Low BS (about 0.45 to 0.55): Still very close to a high Well-Worn. The blue and gold patches are mostly intact, with scratches along the edges of the magazine, the receiver and the barrel.
  • Mid BS (about 0.55 to 0.75): Bare metal starts to show through in bigger patches. Small blue spots can disappear completely, and the colors look more washed out.
  • High BS (about 0.75 to 1.00): Heavy scratching across the body. Some players love the beaten-up, battlefield look; others think it hides what makes a Case Hardened special.

None of that is good or bad by itself. It depends on whether you want a clean color showpiece or a rifle that looks like it's been through a hundred rounds of Dust II. What matters is that you check the exact float before buying, because two listings both labeled "Battle-Scarred" can look nothing alike.

Why the pattern matters more than the wear

Case Hardened uses a pattern seed, a number from 0 to 999, to decide where the blue and gold land on the gun. That gives 1,000 possible layouts for every wear, and the seed stays the same no matter what the float is. We explain how seeds work across different skins in our pattern index guide.

For a normal buyer, this means:

  • Most seeds are mixed. You'll get some blue, some gold, a lot of plain steel. These are the copies selling around the listed market price.
  • A small group of seeds is mostly blue on the side you see in your hand. Those are the famous "blue gems", and they sell for many times the base price, even in Battle-Scarred.
  • Some seeds lean gold or purple, and a few collectors pay extra for those too, though demand is smaller.

Wear doesn't move the pattern, but it does decide how much of that pattern survives. A strong blue seed at 0.46 can still look striking. The same seed at 0.95 may only show blue in the spots that didn't get scratched off. That's why serious collectors talk about seed and float together. If you want to go deep on tiers and the best-known seeds, our Case Hardened blue gem guide is the place for that.

Battle-Scarred vs the other wears (normal patterns)

Here are the lowest Steam listings we saw on October 30, 2026. These are ordinary patterns, and prices move every day, so use them as a rough guide only.

VersionLowest Steam listingWhat you get for the money
Battle-ScarredAbout $215Cheapest entry, heaviest scratching, widest look range
Well-WornAbout $225Cleaner color for a small step up
Field-TestedAbout $231The usual "sweet spot" many players pick
StatTrak Battle-ScarredAbout $642Kill counter, roughly 3x the normal BS

The surprising part is how close the first three rows are. On many skins Battle-Scarred is a fraction of the Field-Tested price. On this AK, the gap was around $15. If you only care about saving money, Battle-Scarred is fine. If you want the colors to pop, spending a little more on Well-Worn or Field-Tested often gets you more for the extra few dollars.

Where the skin comes from

The AK-47 Case Hardened is a Classified skin from the CS:GO Weapon Case, which arrived with the Arms Deal update on August 14, 2013. That case is no longer part of the regular weekly drop pool, and on October 30, 2026 the case itself was listed at about $135 on Steam before you even pay for a key.

Valve publishes the rarity tiers for cases, and the usual figures are about 3.2% for any Classified item per opening. The CS:GO Weapon Case has more than one Classified skin, so your chance of the AK specifically is lower than that, and then only a share of those will roll Battle-Scarred. Put together, opening this case hoping for a BS Case Hardened makes no sense on price: you'd spend far more on cases and keys than buying the skin outright. Our CS2 case odds guide explains the published tier odds in more detail.

That's why almost every Case Hardened AK changes hands on the market, on trading sites, or through case sites that put it in their own custom cases.

How to pick a good Battle-Scarred copy

If you've decided to buy one, a few habits make a big difference:

  1. Inspect in game. Use the "Inspect in Game" button on any listing. Look at the left side of the rifle, the side you see when holding it, plus the magazine.
  2. Check the float number, not just the label. A 0.45 to 0.50 copy usually looks much better than a 0.90 copy for close to the same money.
  3. Look up the seed. Pattern databases and browser extensions show the seed and often rate the blue percentage. Our trading extension guide covers the popular tools.
  4. Compare a few markets. Steam takes about 15% from sellers, so third-party marketplaces often list the same item lower. Prices vary a lot between sites.
  5. Watch for "blue gem" claims. Sellers sometimes label any copy with a bit of blue as a gem. Check the seed yourself instead of trusting the title.
  6. Avoid trade scams. Never log in through a link a stranger sends you, and never share your API key. Real marketplaces don't need it to show you a skin.

Is the AK-47 Case Hardened Battle-Scarred worth it?

It depends on what you want from it.

It's a good pick if you:

  • Want an iconic AK and don't mind visible wear.
  • Like the battle-worn look and plan to actually use the skin.
  • Find a low-float BS copy with a decent amount of blue for close to the base price.

Skip it if you:

  • Want the colors to be clean and bright; Field-Tested or Well-Worn will look better for a small extra cost.
  • Are buying it as an investment. Steam's fee alone means you'd need a meaningful price rise just to break even, and no one can promise that.
  • Only have the budget because you plan to win it back gambling. That's how people lose money they needed.

Other ways players try to get one

Besides buying it straight away, players usually go one of three routes:

  • Trading up from skins they already own. Selling or trading items you don't use toward the AK keeps cash spending down. Expect to lose a little value on each trade.
  • Marketplace bids. Some sites let you place a bid below the lowest listing and wait for a seller. It takes patience but can save money.
  • Case and battle sites. Sites like Clash.gg include Case Hardened items in some of their custom cases, and CSGOEmpire has a marketplace plus games. Remember the house always has an edge. Open with money you can afford to lose and treat a hit as a bonus, not a plan.

If you use a case site, start with whatever free offer you can get. Through our link Clash.gg gives you free cases without typing anything. On CSGOEmpire, code FREECASES4U gets you a free case. Either way, set a limit before you start.

Common mistakes buyers make

  • Paying gem prices for a normal seed. A big blue patch on the right side of the gun doesn't count for much, because you rarely see it in first person.
  • Ignoring float inside BS. A 0.99 and a 0.46 are both "Battle-Scarred", but they shouldn't cost the same if you care about color.
  • Forgetting the Trade Protection window. Since Valve added Trade Protection in 2025, items you receive in a trade can be reversed during the protection window. Buy from reputable sellers and markets.
  • Treating screenshots as proof. Inspect links and seeds can be checked; edited images can't.

Quick checklist before you buy

  • Float under about 0.55 if you care about the colors.
  • Seed checked in a pattern database.
  • Left side and magazine inspected in game.
  • Price compared across at least two markets.
  • Budget set, and no plan to "win back" the cost.

Get those five right and a Battle-Scarred Case Hardened can be a great-looking AK for the money, scratches and all.

FAQ

How much is an AK-47 Case Hardened Battle-Scarred?

On October 30, 2026 the cheapest Steam Community Market listing was about $215, with a recent median sale near $198. That's for an ordinary pattern. Blue-heavy seeds sell for far more, and prices change daily, so check the market before you buy.

What float is Battle-Scarred?

Battle-Scarred covers floats from 0.45 to 1.00, the widest of the five wear tiers. A 0.46 and a 0.95 carry the same label but look very different, so always check the exact float in the inspect screen.

Does the pattern still matter on a Battle-Scarred Case Hardened?

Yes. The pattern seed (0 to 999) decides where blue and gold sit on the gun, and wear doesn't change that. Wear scratches the paint off from the edges first, so a strong blue pattern still reads blue at a low Battle-Scarred float, and gets patchier as the float climbs.

Is Battle-Scarred cheaper than Well-Worn or Field-Tested?

Usually a little. On October 30, 2026 the lowest Steam listings were about $215 Battle-Scarred, $225 Well-Worn and $231 Field-Tested for normal patterns. The gap is small because most of the value sits in the pattern, not the wear.

Which case does the AK-47 Case Hardened come from?

The CS:GO Weapon Case from the August 2013 Arms Deal update. It's a Classified skin there. The case is no longer in the active drop pool, so most people buy the skin directly instead of opening cases.

Is there a StatTrak AK-47 Case Hardened Battle-Scarred?

Yes. StatTrak versions exist in every wear. The cheapest StatTrak Battle-Scarred Steam listing on October 30, 2026 was about $642, roughly three times the normal version.

Is the AK-47 Case Hardened Battle-Scarred a good investment?

Treat it as a skin you want to use, not an investment. It's an old, popular skin and has held value, but Steam takes about 15% when you sell there, prices swing, and nothing guarantees it goes up.
