How to Check Your Rank in CS2
Updated October 10, 2026 · MyCS2Guru crew
Here's how to see your current CS2 rank in Premier and Competitive.
Premier rating
Open Play, Matchmaking, Premier. Your CS Rating appears next to your name and in the lobby.
Competitive ranks
Open Play, Matchmaking, Competitive. Each map shows its own skill group.
Hidden rank?
Ranks become hidden after about a month of inactivity. Win a match to reveal it again. See our ranks guide.
Understanding what you see
When you check your Premier rating, you'll see a number with a color. The color tells you roughly where you sit:
| Color | Rating |
|---|---|
| Grey | 0 to 4,999 |
| Light blue | 5,000 to 9,999 |
| Blue | 10,000 to 14,999 |
| Purple | 15,000 to 19,999 |
| Pink | 20,000 to 24,999 |
| Red | 25,000 to 29,999 |
| Gold | 30,000+ |
In Competitive, you'll see an emblem for each map, from Silver I up to The Global Elite.
Checking your friends' ranks
You can see your friends' Premier ratings in the lobby and on the friends list in CS2. Competitive map ranks may be visible when you're in a party together. This helps you find friends at a similar level to queue with.
Leaderboards
Premier has global and regional leaderboards. Once you're high enough, your name can appear on them. Check the Premier tab for the leaderboard view.
Why your rank might not show
- Not enough wins yet. You need 10 wins.
- Inactivity. Ranks hide after a period without playing.
- New season. Premier seasons can reset ratings, requiring new placement wins.
- No Prime status. Ranked modes need Prime.
How to climb after checking
Seeing your rank is step one. Step two is improving it. Our ranks guide has a full climbing plan, and our aim training routine is the best place to start.
Tracking progress over time
Write down your rating each week. Over a month, you'll see a trend that's more meaningful than any single win or loss. Rating moves up and down daily, but a steady upward trend means your practice is working.

How Premier rating changes after each match
Your rating goes up after a win and down after a loss, but the amount varies. The main factor is the difference between your rating and the average rating of the lobby. If you beat a team rated higher than you, you gain more. If you lose to a lower-rated team, you lose more. Your own placement and the round difference can play a small part too. That's why two wins in a row can give you very different gains.
Rank tips for different levels
| Your rating | Quick focus |
|---|---|
| Grey (under 5,000) | Crosshair placement and stopping before shooting |
| Light blue (5,000 to 9,999) | Basic utility and saving money properly |
| Blue (10,000 to 14,999) | Trading, map control, communication |
| Purple (15,000 to 19,999) | Team coordination and mid-round calls |
| Pink and above | Consistency, anti-strats and mental game |
Competitive map ranks: using them to improve
Because Competitive gives you a separate rank for each map, it's a useful diagnostic. If you're Master Guardian on Mirage but Gold Nova on Nuke, you know exactly where to spend your practice time. Learn three smokes and the callouts for your weakest map and play a few Competitive games on it each week.
Common rank questions
- Why did my rating drop even though I topped the scoreboard? Rating is based on wins and losses, not personal stats.
- Why are my friends' ranks so different from mine? Each player's rating reflects their own history. Queueing together affects matchmaking based on the party's ratings.
- Can I see my rank history? You can track it yourself by noting your rating after each session.
Climbing faster
Rank is a reflection of how often you win. Winning more comes down to better aim, smarter utility, good economy and teamwork. Our aim training guide, economy guide and communication guide are the best places to start.
Final tip
Don't check your rank after every match. Check it weekly. Daily swings are noise; weekly trends show real progress.
What the different ranked modes are for
- Premier: the main ranked mode with pick and ban, a global rating and leaderboards. Best for serious climbing.
- Competitive: classic ranks per map, choose the map you want. Best for practicing specific maps.
- Wingman: 2v2 on smaller maps with its own ranks. Great for practicing duels and quick decision-making with a friend.
Using all three is a good way to improve faster without burning out on one mode.
