Clash.gg Trade Up: How It Compares With CS2 Trade-Up Contracts
Updated · MyCS2Guru crew

People type "Clash.gg trade up" expecting CS2-style trade-up contracts, bro. What Clash.gg actually has is the upgrader: one roll, shown odds, stake in, target out (or nothing). It's a different beast from Valve's contracts, and knowing the difference saves you from bad trades. For step-by-step upgrader play, see how the Clash.gg upgrader works.
The two "trade ups" side by side
| Clash.gg upgrader | CS2 trade-up contract | |
|---|---|---|
| What you put in | Any balance or item value | 10 skins of the same rarity |
| What you get | The exact target item you choose | 1 skin, next rarity up, from the input collections |
| How odds work | % shown, based on value gap minus edge | Weighted by collections of inputs |
| If you "lose" | Stake gone | You still get a skin, maybe worth less |
| House edge | 7.3% listed in Clash.gg's FAQ | None, but Steam fees and market prices matter |
| Speed | Instant | Instant craft; new items get Steam trade restrictions |

When the upgrader makes sense
- You want a specific item and accept a percentage shot at it.
- You're playing with free case value you don't mind risking.
- You like simple, one-click outcomes.
Worked example using the listed 7.3% edge: staking $1 for a $2 item gives roughly a 46% chance; for a $10 item, roughly 9.3%.
When a trade-up contract makes sense
- You've done the maths on a collection where cheap inputs can produce valuable outputs.
- You're fine holding 10 skins and taking Steam market fees.
- You want a guaranteed skin back, not all-or-nothing.
Our CS2 trade-up contracts guide covers float maths and profit checks.
Mixing both
Some players do contracts on Steam for items, deposit the result to Clash.gg for balance, then upgrade. Every hop has a cost: Steam fees, site valuation, the upgrader edge. Stack too many and you're bleeding value before you've even rolled.
Upgrader tips
- Small multipliers = smaller swings, not better value.
- Don't stake your whole balance on one roll.
- Verify results on the provably fair page.
- Set a stop point.

How trade-up contract odds actually work
A trade-up contract's outcome isn't a fixed percentage like the upgrader's. It's weighted by the collections your 10 inputs come from. If 7 inputs are from collection A and 3 from collection B, outcomes from collection A are more likely, and each possible output's chance depends on how many items of the next rarity each collection has. That's why contract planners spend time on spreadsheets and calculators.
Float matters too. The output's wear is calculated from your inputs' average float, scaled into the output skin's float range. Cheap low-float inputs can produce a Factory New output worth much more. Our CS2 trade-up contracts guide and float value explained cover this in detail.
Worked comparison: aiming at a $20 skin
Say you want a specific $20 skin.
Upgrader route: stake $5 of balance for the $20 target. Chance ≈ 5/20 × (1 − 0.073) ≈ 23.2%. Win: you get the exact skin. Lose: $5 gone.
Contract route: buy 10 inputs from a collection where that skin is one of several possible outputs. If inputs cost $1.50 each ($15 total) and your target is one of three equally likely outputs, you have about a 33% shot at it, and the other two outcomes still give you something back. Whether that's good depends entirely on those other outputs' prices and the Steam market fee when you sell.
Neither is "better" in general; it's case by case.
Step-by-step: using the Clash.gg upgrader as a "trade up"
- Sign in and claim via our link, then open your free cases for some starting value.
- Go to the Upgrader.
- Choose your stake: on-site balance or items.
- Pick the target item.
- Check the chance shown. Adjust stake or target if the chance is lower than you like.
- Click upgrade and watch the result.
- Verify on the provably fair page if you want.
Step-by-step: a CS2 trade-up contract
- Pick the output skin you want and find which collection it's from.
- Check the other possible outputs at that rarity in the same collection(s).
- Buy 10 inputs of the rarity below, ideally low float.
- Open CS2, go to your inventory, start a trade-up contract and add the 10 items.
- Confirm. You receive one output item.
- Remember Steam's trade and market rules apply to the new item.
Costs you might forget
| Route | Hidden costs |
|---|---|
| Upgrader | House edge on every roll; site valuation of items you stake |
| Contract | Steam market fees when buying inputs and selling outputs; price swings on inputs |
| Hybrid (contract then deposit to Clash.gg) | Both of the above plus deposit valuation |
Which to choose
| If you... | Choose |
|---|---|
| Want one specific item, fast | Upgrader |
| Enjoy maths and market research | Contract |
| Hate all-or-nothing outcomes | Contract |
| Only have site balance from free cases | Upgrader |
| Want to keep items in Steam | Contract |
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Upgrader target unavailable | Item may be out of stock on site; pick a similar item |
| Chance seems too low | Raise stake or pick a cheaper target |
| Contract button greyed out | Need exactly 10 items, same rarity, no StatTrak mixing |
| Output worth less than expected | Normal risk; check output odds before contracting next time |
Upgrader multipliers at a glance
Using Clash.gg's listed 7.3% edge, here's the chance for common multipliers, whatever the stake:
| Multiplier | Approx. chance |
|---|---|
| 1.5x | ~61.8% |
| 2x | ~46.4% |
| 3x | ~30.9% |
| 5x | ~18.5% |
| 10x | ~9.3% |
| 20x | ~4.6% |
Contracts don't have a neat table like this because their odds depend on the collections you feed in.
Myths about "trading up" on gambling sites
- "Small multipliers are safer value." They're less swingy, not better value.
- "Upgrading right after a loss is luckier." Each roll is independent.
- "Trade-up calculators guarantee profit." They estimate expected value at current prices; prices move, and fees bite.
A hybrid plan some players use
- Plan a contract on Steam with cheap, low-float inputs.
- Keep the output if you like it, or sell it on the market.
- If you want to gamble a portion, deposit a skin to Clash.gg and use a small part on the upgrader at a modest multiplier.
- Withdraw anything you want to keep.
Each step has a cost, so only do this if you enjoy the process. For straightforward value, pick one route.
Responsible use
Both trade-ups and upgrades can turn into "one more try" loops. Set a cap on how many attempts you'll make per day, and never stake items you'd be upset to lose. Our responsible gambling page has tools for limits.
