CS2 Wallbangs: Shoot Through Walls, Win Rounds
Updated October 10, 2026 · MyCS2Guru crew
In CS2, plenty of surfaces can be shot through. Doors, thin walls, boxes and wooden structures can all let bullets pass. Knowing where to wallbang lets you damage or kill enemies who think they're hidden. It's especially powerful when you know where enemies like to sit.
How penetration works
Every weapon has a penetration value, and every surface has a material type. When a bullet passes through a surface, it loses damage. Thin wood and metal let through more damage; concrete blocks almost everything.
| Weapon type | Penetration |
|---|---|
| AWP | Excellent |
| AK-47 | Very good |
| AUG / SG 553 | Very good |
| M4A4 / M4A1-S | Good |
| Desert Eagle | Good |
| SMGs | Poor |
| Pistols (most) | Poor |
When to wallbang
- You know someone's there. Sound, radar, teammate info or a recent kill angle.
- Common spots. Some positions are always used, so pre-firing through walls can catch players.
- Low HP enemies. A damaged player behind thin cover can be finished with a wallbang.
- Defusing or planting. Players are stationary and often behind thin cover.
Popular wallbang spots
| Map | Spot | Through |
|---|---|---|
| Mirage | Connector / Jungle | Thin walls near A |
| Mirage | B apartments windows | Wood and thin walls |
| Inferno | Banana boxes | Wood boxes |
| Inferno | B site Coffins | Thin cover |
| Dust2 | Xbox and doors | Wooden surfaces |
| Dust2 | B doors | Wooden doors |
| Nuke | Hut and Heaven walls | Thin metal |
| Nuke | Floors between A and B | Thin metal floors |
| Train | Train cars | Thin metal |
| Ancient | Some boxes and wood | Thin cover |

How to practice wallbangs
- Load a private match with
sv_cheats 1; sv_showimpacts 1; sv_infinite_ammo 1. - Add a bot behind common cover with
bot_place. - Shoot through various surfaces and watch the impacts and damage.
- Note which spots let your main rifle through.
Common wallbang mistakes
- Spraying walls without information. It wastes ammo and reveals you.
- Using SMGs. Their penetration is weak.
- Forgetting enemies can wallbang you. Don't sit behind thin cover.
- Not checking for updates. Map changes can change penetrable surfaces.
Tips
- AWP wallbangs through thin surfaces can still kill.
- Spam when you're sure. Tap when you're guessing.
- Use the radar: if a teammate spots someone behind a box, that's your cue.
Wallbangs are a tool, not a strategy. Pair them with good callouts so your team tells you exactly where to shoot.
Wallbangs by weapon in more detail
AWP
The AWP has the highest penetration in the game. Many thin surfaces that stop rifle bullets from killing will still let an AWP shot through with enough damage to kill or nearly kill. If a teammate calls an enemy behind a thin door or wooden box and you have an AWP, it's often worth taking the shot.
AK-47
The AK combines strong penetration with high damage. Spamming a thin door or box with an AK can kill a player behind it in a few bullets. It's the best rifle for wallbanging.
M4A4 and M4A1-S
Both have decent penetration but lower damage per bullet than the AK. Wallbangs with M4s are good for damaging and finishing players, less reliable for full kills through thick cover.
AUG and SG 553
These scoped rifles have strong penetration and are excellent for long-range wallbangs on common positions.
Desert Eagle
Surprisingly good penetration for a pistol. Deagle wallbangs on low HP players can win eco rounds.
SMGs and most pistols
Poor penetration. Don't rely on them for wallbangs except through very thin surfaces.
Map spots to test yourself
Instead of trusting lists that go out of date, test these common types of spots on every map you play:
- Doors players hold behind, like B Doors on Dust2.
- Wooden boxes on bomb sites.
- Thin walls next to common angles.
- Floors and ceilings on multi-level maps like Nuke.
- Train cars and containers.
Write down which ones your main rifle can penetrate and how much damage it does.
Prefiring vs wallbanging
Prefiring means shooting at a spot just as you peek it, expecting an enemy there. Wallbanging means shooting through cover without peeking. Both rely on knowing common positions. A good habit: when you're unsure whether someone is behind thin cover, a short wallbang burst can reveal them through hit markers or a damage call, then you can decide whether to peek.
Wallbang mistakes that cost rounds
- Reloading after spamming a wall right as the enemy peeks you.
- Wallbanging through smokes randomly and giving away your position.
- Forgetting that thin cover protects nobody. If you can wallbang it, so can the enemy. Don't hold angles behind thin cover against AWPs.
Wallbangs and sound
CS2 sound tells you a lot. Footsteps behind a wall, a reload, a defuse kit sound or a scope zoom can all tell you exactly where someone is. Combine sound with wallbangs and you'll get kills other players never see coming.
Wallbangs FAQ
- Do wallbangs work through smokes? Bullets pass through smokes. Smokes don't block bullets, just vision.
- Do wallbangs show hit markers? You'll see blood effects and can hear hits, which confirms damage.
- Can you wallbang through multiple walls? Sometimes, with high-penetration weapons and thin surfaces, but damage drops a lot.
Final thoughts
Wallbangs are a tool that rewards map knowledge and good information. Learn which surfaces your main weapon can penetrate on your favorite maps, listen for sounds, and trust your teammates' calls.
Quick summary
Learn the penetrable surfaces on your maps, listen for sounds, and use wallbangs to finish damaged or stationary enemies.

Example round
A teammate calls that the last CT is defusing behind the box on B. You can't see him, but you know the box is penetrable. You spray through it with your AK and he dies before the defuse finishes. Map knowledge plus a good call just won the round.
Surface types and penetration
Different materials let bullets through differently:
| Material | Penetration |
|---|---|
| Thin wood (doors, crates) | Good |
| Thin metal (sheets, containers) | Good to medium |
| Thick wood | Medium |
| Glass | Very easy |
| Brick | Poor |
| Concrete | Very poor |
| Thick metal | Very poor |
Bullets lose damage with every surface and thickness they pass through. A wallbang through a thin door with an AK can still do heavy damage; the same shot through concrete does nothing.
Damage through walls
As a rule of thumb, rifles lose a significant chunk of damage through thin cover and AWPs lose less. That's why AWP wallbangs can still kill through some surfaces while rifle wallbangs usually just damage. Test with bots and sv_showimpacts 1 to see real numbers on your maps.
When wallbangs win rounds
- Defusers and planters: stationary targets behind thin cover.
- Predictable hiding spots: common post-plant positions.
- Low HP enemies: finishing someone who ran behind a box.
- Information: your teammates calling exact positions.
When not to wallbang
- When you'd reveal your position for little gain.
- When you're low on ammo and might need it.
- When you're guessing randomly.
- When the enemy is behind thick cover.
Wallbang practice routine
- Load your main map with
sv_cheats 1; sv_showimpacts 1; sv_infinite_ammo 1. - Place bots at common positions with
bot_place. - Shoot from where you'd stand in a real round.
- Note which positions take damage through cover.
- Write down your top 3 wallbang spots per map.
Communication for wallbangs
Wallbangs work best with precise info. Good calls sound like "He's behind the box, wallbang it" or "Defusing, spam the door." Learn the callouts so your teammates know exactly where to shoot.
