CS2 Weekly Care Package: How It Works and What to Pick
Updated · MyCS2Guru crew

Free stuff every week just for playing, bro? That's the CS2 weekly care package. Here's how the weekly drop works, when it resets, what you can get and how to pick the best two rewards.
What is the weekly care package?
The weekly care package is CS2's main free drop system. Once per week, when you level up your profile rank for the first time that week, you get a care package offering four rewards. You choose two. Rewards come from a rotating drop pool that can include weapon cases, weapon skins, graffiti and other items.

Who's eligible?
- You need Prime Status (the paid upgrade that also gets you into Premier and Prime matchmaking).
- You need to level up your profile rank (earn enough XP to rank up) for the first time in the weekly cycle.
- Non-Prime accounts don't get weekly care packages.
When does it reset?
The weekly cycle resets once per week on Tuesday evening US time. Community trackers put it around 8 PM Central, which is early Wednesday UTC. Daylight saving changes can shift the UTC time, so check the in-game timer if you're cutting it close.
How XP works
You earn XP by playing official modes like Premier, Competitive, Wingman, Casual and Deathmatch, and from in-game missions when available. CS2 gives bonus XP early in the week, which then reduces as you earn more (an XP reduction kicks in after the bonus is used up), so your first few matches each week give the biggest boost. In most cases, a couple of hours of play is enough to reach the first level-up and unlock the care package.
What's in the drop pool?
The drop pool rotates. It typically includes:
- Weapon cases from the active drop list.
- Weapon skins from certain collections.
- Graffiti and occasionally other items.
Valve updates the pool from time to time, so check a current drop pool tracker or simply look at what you're offered.
Which two rewards should you pick?
For value, follow this simple routine:
- Look up each item's Steam Market price.
- Pick the two highest-value items. Cases often sell for more than common skins.
- If prices are close, pick what you'd actually use or the item that sells faster.
- Ignore graffiti unless you love it; it's usually the lowest value.
If you're collecting, you might choose a skin for your loadout over a slightly more valuable case.
Is it worth farming?
Per week, the care package is a small reward, often worth a little real money depending on what you pick and market prices. Over a year it adds up, and if you play anyway, it's free value. Don't buy Prime just for drops expecting profit; buy it because you want Prime matchmaking and Premier, and treat drops as a bonus.
Making the most of weekly drops
- Play at least until your first level-up each week.
- Claim your rewards promptly so you don't forget.
- Sell cases while demand is good, or hold if you're patient and comfortable with price risk.
- Track your weekly drops in a notes app to see their value over time.
- Pair them with other free skin methods like Major drops and free cases.

Common mistakes
- Not levelling up because you played only once in the week.
- Picking graffiti over higher-value items.
- Not checking market prices before choosing.
- Buying Prime just for drops.
- Falling for "free skin" scams that pretend to be care package sites.
Bottom line
Get Prime, level up once a week, choose your two best rewards and enjoy free stuff for doing what you already do: playing CS2.
The weekly routine that gets you the most
Here's a simple weekly routine for Prime players:
- After reset (Tuesday evening US time), play a couple of matches early in the week while the XP bonus is active.
- Level up once to unlock the care package.
- Open the reward screen and check all four items.
- Look up market prices for each item.
- Pick your two based on value or what you'll use.
- Decide: sell, hold or use. Cases can be sold quickly; skins can go in your loadout.
- Log it to track what your weekly drops are worth over time.
How long does it take to unlock?
It depends on modes and performance. Modes like Premier and Competitive give solid XP per match. Deathmatch and Casual can also contribute, though community guides note different XP rates by mode. Many players unlock the weekly care package after a few matches early in the week. If you're short on time, focus on modes you enjoy that give decent XP.
Weekly care package FAQ (extra)
Do I lose my care package if I don't claim it? Claim it when you see it. If you don't level up in a week, you miss that week's package.
Can I get more than one per week? No. It's one care package per weekly cycle.
Are care package items tradable? Many are, after Steam's trade protection and any restrictions. Some items may be non-tradable.
Does Premier rank affect drops? No. Drops depend on Prime and levelling up, not rank.
Do I need to win matches? No. You earn XP for playing; winning and performance can add more XP.
Does the weekly drop work on non-Prime accounts? No. Prime is required.
Do bots or community servers count? Official modes give XP. Community servers generally don't count toward profile XP.
Why the drop pool changes
Valve rotates cases and collections in and out of the active drop pool. When a case leaves the pool, it becomes "discontinued" for drops and may become rarer over time, which is why some people hold certain cases. That's a speculative strategy with no guarantees. See our CS2 discontinued cases guide and case investing.
Sell now or hold?
- Sell now: if you want guaranteed value and don't want to track prices.
- Hold: if you're patient, the item has a history of holding value and you accept it could drop.
- Use: if it's a skin you like, enjoy it. Cosmetic value counts too.
There's no right answer. Many players sell cases immediately and keep skins they like.
Avoiding care package scams
Scam sites and bots sometimes claim to "boost" weekly drops, sell "guaranteed rare drops" or ask you to log in to claim extra packages. None of that is real. Weekly care packages only come from playing CS2 with Prime. Never share your Steam login or API key. See CS2 trading scams.
What about XP farming?
Valve has cracked down on drop farming in the past, and the Prime requirement exists partly for that reason. Play normally in official modes. Don't use bots, idlers or exploits to farm XP; they can get accounts restricted.
Weekly drops vs free cases
Weekly drops are steady, small and safe. Free cases on Clash.gg (3 with FREECASES4U) and CSGOEmpire (a free case with the same code) are one-off free rolls. Using both costs nothing. CSGOEmpire isn't available in the US, UK, Australia and several other countries, so check eligibility. 18+ only.
Final word
The weekly care package is CS2's most reliable free reward. Level up once a week, pick the two best items and decide whether to sell or keep them. It's small, steady value for playing the game you already love.
XP tips for busy players
- Play early in the week to use the XP bonus while it's active.
- Pick modes you enjoy so you actually finish matches.
- Complete matches fully; abandoning can cost XP and lead to penalties.
- Play with friends to make sessions longer and more fun.
Weekly care package value over a year
Weekly drops vary widely in value, so we won't put a number on it. But think about it this way: 52 weeks, two items per week, 104 items a year. Even if most are cheap, a few cases or nicer skins can add up to a meaningful amount, especially if you hold items that rise in value or sell when demand is high. Treat it as a bonus, not income.
For new players
If you've just started CS2, getting Prime makes sense once you know you enjoy the game. Prime unlocks Premier, better matchmaking and weekly drops. After that, the weekly care package becomes a nice little habit: play, level up, pick two, repeat.
Quick checklist
Prime active? First level-up this week done? All four rewards price-checked? Two best picked? Decision made to sell, hold or use? Logged for your records? Then you're done for the week. See you after Tuesday's reset, bro.

One more thing: account security
Your weekly drops are only as safe as your Steam account. Turn on Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator, never share your API key, and be suspicious of anyone messaging you about your inventory. A compromised account can lose every drop you've collected in seconds. Five minutes of security setup protects years of free items.
