CS2 Sticker Scrape: How Scraping Works

Traditional French folding knives with wooden handles, nice-looking like a sticker scrape

Scraping stickers can turn a clean craft into a gritty, battle-worn masterpiece, or ruin it, bro. Here's how CS2 sticker scraping works, how to do it well and what to avoid.

What scraping does

When you scrape a sticker, it gets progressively more worn. After several scrapes, it's fully removed and destroyed. You can't get it back, and scraping can't be undone. Scraping doesn't change the weapon skin's float or pattern. Steam Support also describes a separate removal action, which likewise destroys the sticker rather than returning it to your inventory.

How to scrape

  1. Open your inventory and select the weapon.
  2. Choose Scrape Sticker.
  3. Select the sticker you want to scrape.
  4. Confirm. The sticker wears one step.
  5. Inspect after every scrape to check the look.
  6. Repeat only if you want more wear.

Wear stages

Each scrape adds wear in steps. Early scrapes fade the sticker slightly; later ones leave only faint outlines. The exact number of steps can vary. Take it slowly; you can always scrape more, never less.

Partial scrapes: the "worn" craft

Some crafters deliberately scrape stickers partway so they match a worn skin. A Battle-Scarred rifle with crisp, shiny stickers can look out of place; lightly scraped stickers blend in. This works best with cheap stickers and gritty skins. See CS2 sticker craft.

Scraping and value

  • Clean stickers usually hold the most value.
  • Scraped rare stickers often lose much of their premium.
  • Fully scraped means zero sticker value.
  • Exceptions: some collectors seek specific scraped looks, but that's niche.

If you own valuable stickers on a skin, don't scrape unless you're sure.

Why people scrape

  • To remove a sticker they don't like (destroying it).
  • To create a worn aesthetic.
  • To reveal part of the skin underneath.
  • To match a craft's theme.

Common mistakes

  1. Scraping too fast without inspecting.
  2. Scraping expensive stickers by accident.
  3. Expecting to recover a removed sticker.
  4. Thinking scraping changes float.

Bottom line

Scraping wears stickers in steps and eventually destroys them. It's permanent, so inspect after each scrape, practise on cheap stickers and avoid scraping valuable ones unless you're certain.

Scraping strategy for crafts

  1. Apply all stickers first, then decide on scraping.
  2. Scrape evenly across stickers for a consistent look, or scrape one more than others for a story effect.
  3. Stop one step early. You can always scrape again.
  4. Screenshot each stage to compare.

Scrape FAQ (extra)

Can I scrape stickers on someone else's item? No. Only on items in your inventory.

Does scraping cost anything? No, but it permanently uses up the sticker.

Can I scrape stickers on a rented skin? Rented skins can't have stickers applied, so no.

Can you undo a scrape?

No. Scraping is permanent.

What happens when you fully scrape a sticker?

It's removed from the weapon and destroyed. It doesn't return to your inventory.

No. Scraping only affects the sticker.

Do scraped stickers lower value?

Usually. Most buyers prefer clean stickers, though some crafts use deliberate partial scrapes.
