CS2 Sticker Craft Guide: How to Build a Craft That Looks Deliberate

A good sticker craft can make a $5 skin look like a $500 one, bro. A bad one looks like a laptop lid. Here's how to build CS2 sticker crafts that look deliberate, plus budget ideas and the money truth nobody tells you.

The basics

  • Up to five stickers per weapon in CS2 (up from four in CS:GO).
  • Free placement: Valve added flexible sticker positioning in early 2024, so you can drag and rotate stickers anywhere on the weapon body before applying.
  • Applying is permanent: you can't move a sticker afterwards.
  • Scraping wears a sticker down; fully scraping it destroys it. See CS2 sticker scrape.

The three pillars of a good craft

  1. Palette: stickers that pick up the skin's colours look intentional, even if they cost cents.
  2. Theme: one idea (fire, a team, an animal, a joke) beats a random mix.
  3. Placement: put stickers where you'll see them in first person. Don't hide them under your hand.

Step-by-step

  1. Pick the skin first. Note its main colours and where the visible surfaces are.
  2. Browse stickers by colour and theme. Paper and recent tournament stickers cost very little.
  3. Preview. CS2 lets you preview stickers on your items, including from the Community Market and other sources added in later updates. Use it.
  4. Check first-person view in the preview or inspect.
  5. Price everything before buying. Add sticker costs to the skin cost.
  6. Apply carefully, one at a time, confirming each position.
  7. Optional: partial scrapes for a worn, cohesive look.

Where to place stickers

On rifles, crafters favour visible spots along the body and above the grip. On the AWP, the scope-side body. On pistols, the slide. Check what's visible when you hold the weapon, because some spots only show in inspect.

Budget craft ideas

  • One sticker repeated 4-5 times along the body for a clean pattern.
  • Colour-matched paper stickers from recent Majors (often very cheap).
  • A single focal sticker in the perfect spot. One great sticker can beat five average ones.
  • Partially scraped stickers to blend into a worn skin.

The money truth

Sticker crafts are mostly a one-way spend. When you sell a crafted skin, most buyers pay close to the price of the plain skin. Only iconic crafts, especially with rare stickers like Katowice 2014 holos, carry real premiums, and even those often return a fraction of the sticker cost. Craft because you want the look, not as an investment.

When buying an existing craft, you can sometimes get the stickers "for free" (priced near the plain skin). That's a nice way to own a craft you like without paying full sticker cost.

Common mistakes

  1. Applying without previewing.
  2. Mixing too many themes and colours.
  3. Hiding stickers under your hand.
  4. Expecting to resell for sticker cost.
  5. Using rare stickers on a skin you'll sell soon.

Bottom line

Great crafts are about palette, theme and placement, not price. Preview everything, put stickers where you'll see them and treat sticker money as spent. Then enjoy a loadout that's genuinely yours.

Colour theory for crafts (the simple version)

You don't need an art degree. Three approaches work:

  • Matching: stickers in the same colours as the skin (red stickers on a red skin). Safe and clean.
  • Complementary: stickers in an opposite colour that pops (orange on a blue skin). Bold, eye-catching.
  • Neutral accents: black, white, gold or silver stickers that suit almost anything.

Holo and foil stickers add shine. Glitter and lenticular effects add movement. Too many shiny stickers can look busy, so mix finishes deliberately.

Placement patterns that look good

  • Straight line along the body: classic and tidy.
  • Clustered near the front: draws the eye to one area.
  • Symmetrical spacing: same gap between each sticker.
  • Single focal point: one big, perfectly placed sticker.
  • Overlap (careful): some crafts overlap stickers to create new shapes. It's advanced and easy to get wrong.

Before applying, rotate the weapon in the preview to check how it looks from the angles you'll actually see.

Craft ideas by weapon

AK-47: the body above the grip and the magazine area are visible. Colour-matched stickers along the body look great on plain skins like Slate or Elite Build.

M4A1-S / M4A4: long bodies suit lines of repeated stickers.

AWP: the scope-side body is your canvas. Single big stickers or tidy rows work well.

USP-S / Glock-18: slides are small; one or two stickers usually look better than five.

Desert Eagle: big slide, good for bold single stickers or a short row.

Budget crafting process

  1. Set a budget for stickers (e.g. a few dollars total).
  2. Pick a cheap base skin with clear colours.
  3. Search stickers by colour, sort by price.
  4. Shortlist five to ten options and preview each.
  5. Choose the best combo and buy.
  6. Apply one at a time, checking each.

You'll be surprised how good a craft can look for very little money.

Buying pre-made crafts

Pre-crafted skins can be a bargain because sellers often can't recover sticker costs. When buying:

  • Inspect the craft from first person.
  • Check sticker condition (scraped or clean).
  • Verify every sticker name if you're paying a premium.
  • Compare with the plain skin price.

Selling a craft

Expect buyers to value it close to the plain skin unless it includes rare stickers or a well-known craft style. Provide clear screenshots, list sticker names and be realistic. If you used expensive stickers, a specialist community may value them more than the general market.

Craft FAQ (extra)

Can I move a sticker after applying? No. Positioning is final once applied.

Do stickers affect float? No.

Can I apply stickers to knives? No. Knives can't have stickers in CS2.

Can I use the same sticker five times? Yes, if you own five copies.

Do rare stickers make crafts worth more? Sometimes, but even rare sticker crafts usually sell for less than the combined cost.

Inspiration without copying

Browse community galleries for ideas, then adapt them to your skin and budget. A craft you design yourself, even if cheap, feels way better than a copied one.

Common craft themes that always work

  • Fire: flame stickers on red, black or orange skins.
  • Ice: blue and white stickers on cool-toned skins.
  • Nature: green and brown stickers on camo or forest skins.
  • Gold: gold foil or gold-coloured stickers on black or dark skins.
  • Team pride: your favourite team's stickers in their colours.
  • Retro: older-style stickers on classic skins.

Themes give you a clear filter when browsing thousands of stickers.

How much to spend

For personal crafts, many players spend somewhere between pocket change and the price of the skin itself. A good rule: don't spend more on stickers than you'd be happy to lose completely, because you can't get it back. If you want a premium craft, consider buying one pre-made instead.

Quick craft checklist

Base skin chosen? Palette clear? Theme decided? Stickers previewed in first person? Total cost acceptable as a one-way spend? Applied one at a time? If yes, you've got a craft that's genuinely yours. Show it off, bro.

Want to add a worn look afterwards? Read our sticker scrape guide before you touch the scrape button, because there's no undo.

Take your time, bro. The best crafts are planned, not rushed.

FAQ

How many stickers can you put on a CS2 weapon?

Up to five, with free placement and rotation before applying.

Can you move a sticker after applying it?

No. Once applied, it's fixed. You can only scrape it, which wears it down and eventually destroys it.

Do sticker crafts add resale value?

Usually not much. Most crafted skins sell near the plain skin's price, except iconic crafts with rare stickers.

What is a quad craft?

Four of the same sticker on one weapon, a classic style from CS:GO's four-slot days.

What makes a good craft?

A clear colour palette, a consistent theme and clean, visible placement.
