CS2 Betting Odds Explained: How to Read Odds and Find Value
Updated October 2026 · MyCS2Guru crew

Odds aren't just numbers on a screen, bro. They're the bookmaker's opinion of each team's chances, plus their cut. Once you can read them, you'll know exactly what you're paying and when a bet might actually be worth it. Here's CS2 betting odds explained with real examples.

The three odds formats
| Format | Example | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Decimal | 2.50 | $1 returns $2.50 total ($1.50 profit) |
| Fractional | 3/2 | $2 stake wins $3 profit |
| American | +150 | $100 stake wins $150 profit |
| American (favourite) | -150 | Stake $150 to win $100 profit |
Skin betting sites mostly use decimal odds, so that's our focus.
Converting between formats
| Decimal | Fractional | American | Implied % |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.25 | 1/4 | -400 | 80% |
| 1.50 | 1/2 | -200 | 66.7% |
| 1.80 | 4/5 | -125 | 55.6% |
| 2.00 | 1/1 | +100 | 50% |
| 2.50 | 3/2 | +150 | 40% |
| 3.00 | 2/1 | +200 | 33.3% |
| 5.00 | 4/1 | +400 | 20% |

Implied probability
Implied probability = 1 / decimal odds.
Example: Team A at 1.60 implies 62.5%. Team B at 2.30 implies 43.5%. Together: 106%. That extra 6% is the bookmaker's margin.
The bookmaker margin (overround)
| Team A odds | Team B odds | Total implied | Margin |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2.00 | 2.00 | 100% | 0% (no edge) |
| 1.90 | 1.90 | 105.3% | about 5% |
| 1.85 | 1.85 | 108.1% | about 8% |
| 1.50 | 2.50 | 106.7% | about 6.7% |
The higher the margin, the more you pay per bet. Compare margins between markets and sites.
Removing the margin to estimate "fair" odds
Divide each implied probability by the total. For 1.50 / 2.50 (66.7% + 40% = 106.7%): fair chances are about 62.5% and 37.5%, so fair odds are about 1.60 and 2.67.
Value betting
A bet has value when your estimate of the true chance is higher than the implied probability.
Example: odds of 2.40 imply 41.7%. If your research says the team wins 48% of the time, that's a value bet. Your expected return per $1 = 0.48 x 2.40 = $1.15.
The catch: your estimate must actually be better than the bookmaker's, which is very hard to do consistently. Track your bets to see if your "value" is real.
CS2 markets and their odds
| Market | Example | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Match winner | Team A 1.70 / Team B 2.10 | Most popular, lowest margin usually |
| Map winner | Map 1: Team A 1.80 | Map pools matter |
| Map handicap | Team A -1.5 maps at 2.60 | Team A must win 2-0 in a Bo3 |
| Round handicap | Team B +4.5 rounds at 1.85 | Team B can lose a map by up to 4 rounds |
| Total maps | Over 2.5 maps at 2.05 | Bo3 goes to a decider |
| Total rounds | Over 26.5 rounds at 1.90 | Close maps go over |
| Correct score | 2-1 at 3.50 | Higher odds, lower chance |
| Outright | Tournament winner at 6.00 | Long-term |

Live odds
Live odds move with every round. Things that shift them:
- Round score and momentum.
- Economy: who has a full buy next round.
- Side switch at half-time (CT-sided vs T-sided maps).
- Map changes in a series.
Live markets often carry higher margins, and emotion runs high, so be careful.
Combos and how odds multiply
Combo odds = each leg's odds multiplied together. Three legs at 1.80 = 1.80 x 1.80 x 1.80 = 5.83. But the margin multiplies too, and every leg must win.
| Legs at 1.80 | Combined odds | Chance if each is a fair 55% |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1.80 | 55% |
| 2 | 3.24 | 30% |
| 3 | 5.83 | 17% |
| 4 | 10.50 | 9% |
Worked CS2 example
A Bo3: Team A 1.55, Team B 2.45.
- Implied: 64.5% + 40.8% = 105.3%, so about a 5% margin.
- Fair estimate: Team A about 61.3%, Team B about 38.7%.
- Your research: Team B has a strong map pool and Team A has a stand-in, so you rate Team B at 45%.
- Expected return on Team B: 0.45 x 2.45 = 1.10 per $1, a possible value bet.
- Stake: 1-2% of your bankroll. Record it in your log.
Common odds mistakes
- Thinking low odds are "safe". Favourites lose all the time.
- Ignoring the margin.
- Chasing big combo odds.
- Betting on name value rather than form and maps.
- Not comparing odds across markets.

Why odds move before a match
Odds aren't fixed. They change as money comes in and news breaks:
| Cause | Typical effect |
|---|---|
| Roster change or stand-in announced | The affected team's odds lengthen |
| Heavy betting on one side | That side's odds shorten |
| Map veto revealed | Odds adjust to the map pool |
| Strong recent results | Odds shorten for the in-form team |
| Visa or travel issues | Odds can swing sharply |
If you place a bet early and the odds shorten afterwards, you got a better price than the market's closing view. Consistently beating the closing odds is one of the few signs that a bettor actually has an edge.
How to calculate your profit
Profit = stake x (decimal odds - 1).
| Stake | Odds | Return | Profit |
|---|---|---|---|
| $1 | 1.50 | $1.50 | $0.50 |
| $5 | 1.85 | $9.25 | $4.25 |
| $10 | 2.40 | $24.00 | $14.00 |
| $2 | 5.00 | $10.00 | $8.00 |
Expected value in plain English
Expected value (EV) tells you what a bet is worth on average:
EV per $1 = (your win chance x decimal odds) - 1.
- If EV is positive, the bet has value by your estimate.
- If EV is negative, you're paying for the entertainment.
Example: you rate Team A at 50%, and the odds are 1.85. EV = 0.50 x 1.85 - 1 = -0.075, or -7.5 cents per dollar. Not a value bet, even though it "feels" like a coin flip.
Bo1 vs Bo3 odds
Best-of-one matches are more random. A single map, a single veto and a single bad half can flip the result. That's why underdogs win Bo1s more often than Bo3s, and why favourite odds in Bo1s are usually longer (less short) than in Bo3s. Treat Bo1 favourites with extra caution.
